Coffee Date

I don't drink coffee. Sugary frappuccinos are about as close as I get. But I'd like to take you out for coffee sometime. I'll save up my pennies, because I'd really like to treat. You've been an awesome friend.
I'm still tired of talking about Matt, so we'll get those updates over with quickly so we can talk about something else.

I'd tell you that I desperately want to see The Fault in Our Stars movie, and that the previews make me want to cry and that I can't wait. I'd ask if you want to see it with me, and we could bawl our faces off together. You understand.

I'd share a YouTube clip of something I saw on So You Think You Can Dance about an all-ladies tap group, and tell you how much I am dying to be a part of something like that.

Then I'd complain about the speeding ticket I got last week on my way to tap class.
I'd confess that I signed up to go on a mission trip to Mexico this summer, and that the prospect makes me nervous. I've never been on a mission trip before, and I don't know that I'm a good enough person for this. (Also, I shouldn't have Googled the city we're going to, because now I'm a little afraid I'm going to get shot.)

I'd tell you that, after nine years of togetherness, Matt and I have officially crossed into the territory of sharing too much personal information, and that I am kind of not okay with talking about bodily functions with my husband. And hopefully you'd commiserate and share an awkward story, and we'd laugh over the silliness of being in relationships.
And I'd ask what's new in your life. I'd ask what you're reading, what's going on in your relationship, what's the latest with that co-worker you can't stand. How are the kids. How's your mom. What are your dreams. What are your fears. What was worth waking up for today.

What would you say if we went out for that coffee?

P.S. I went to this cute, "rustic" new coffee place in Downtown Bryan yesterday, Harvest Coffee Bar. It reminds me a lot of our wedding venue, which is a few blocks over. The barista made me a delicious chai latte, and complimented my shoes. I'll be going back soon.

  3. Ha! Jordan and I have been married for 3 years, and we've been talking about bodily functions for a while. I hope we can still be friends. I think what did it was college. One of my best friends (and roommate junior year) Erin was the type to poop with the door open. You know the kind. After that, nothing is TMI. haha! Embrace it :) Also, I would love if I could see Fault in Our Stars together! Wouldn't that be fun?

    1. We've always been closed-door types of people, literally and figuratively, so it was weird to all of a sudden cross that line! But of course we can still be friends. :) Thankfully he hasn't gone as far as your roommate … eep!

  4. This coffee place sounds really nice, and I'm a frappuccino girl, too. We are closed door people, too, but I'm okay talking about it. With two little boys and no locks, there isn't much privacy in our house these days.

  6. great idea for a post! I'd love to have a coffee date if you're ever in Minnesota! I would listen to you vent about Matt's job stuff because that's what friends do and then I'd agree to go sob in public at that movie, and then I'd vent to you about house drama and how I'm nervous to deliver a baby in less than two months- eek! After years of acquiring a taste for it I now drink iced vanilla lattes, even in winter, although I drink them decaf.

And I've been talking about and performing bodily functions in front of my now husband since the two month dating mark, he's the person I feel most comfortable around! :)

  7. this sounds like a pretty perfect coffee date. imagining we're actually on it, i would definitely want more details about this tap class -- how did i not know you were a tap dancer? more details :) also- the mission trip sounds really exciting - where are you going? for how long?

    1. Yep! I tapped all growing up, and figured I'd just stop when I got to college. And then I ended up doing two semesters of tap in college. And then I found an adult studio here, and have been going for about a year. But it's just for fun, I do it because I can't not be dancing. It's convenient that it doubles as exercise. :)

The trip is for three days, to a city just on the other side of the Texas border, almost at the very bottom tip of Texas. I hope it will be a great experience and all my worries will be for nothing. :)

  8. That coffee date sounds perfect!! I've been wanting to see The Fault in our Stars too, but I'm bracing myself, because I know it'll be so so sad. And I hope your mission trip goes well...it sounds exciting!

    1. I've heard some early reviews of people flat-out sobbing, no shame, in the movie theater. That makes me feel better at least!

  9. I would love to go on a coffee date, although I'd also get something other than coffee LOL!

I hope your mission trip goes well and you need to go see The Fault in Our Stars if you haven't yet! If I were closer, I'd totally go with you. When the movie was over, half of the theater still stayed in their seats. We all needed to regain our composure to go back out into the world. Excellent movie and I bought the book to read so I can cry all over again.
