Hair Today

I've spent the past year growing out my pixie cut. Don't get me wrong, I still loved the way it looked, but I was ready for something new, and there's not a lot you can do with it when it's that short. So I needed to grow it a little so I have more options.

Here's what it looks like right now:

It's not my favorite, but it's getting there. Of course, I keep grabbing the scissors and almost cutting bangs ... but I keep chickening out.

Recently, all these celebrities started chopping off their hair into super short 'dos. It's making me long for my pixie cut again.

Anne Hathaway has looked so good all winter since she lopped her hair for Les Mis. I hope she never grows it back out.

Even Miley Cyrus' hair is growing on me. When she first cut it, I haaaated the way it looked. But lately ... I dunno, she's kind of working it. And it makes me miss my short hair.

So I can't decide if I want to keep growing it out. Maybe I just want to keep it short forever. I don't know. I'm too indecisive. But compared to what my hair currently looks like, I feel like the shorter hair was a better look for me.

What do you think — grow or chop? And should I just cut the dang bangs already??

  1. I think it looks cute either way! I can't have my hair short - I get too sick of it and crave a change pretty frequently, haha. I think bangs could look cute, though!

    1. Haha, that's why I spend so much time thinking about dyeing it! :)

  2. I think dyeing it could be a good alternative! I vote you at least get your hair to shoulders/ponytail length before you decide if you want the pixie again, since you're halfway there.

    1. I'm hoping to get highlights as soon as I save up enough pennies. :) I wanted to go lighter when my hair was shorter, but my stylist said the highlights wouldn't turn out as good on hair as short as mine was, so that's one good thing about it being longer!

  3. You looked great with a pixie cut, but I'm all about options, so I vote grow it out some more. Maybe you could do the bangs as a compromise and if you still aren't satisfied, chop the rest off.

  4. I'm growing out my hair too. I had a pixie cut for oh, about 10 years. I loved it but wanted a change. It's soooo close to shoulder length now, and I feel like Rapunzel!
Good to know I'm not the only one in a growing out phase.

  5. I'll weigh in here and say as a hairdresser, you look stunning with short hair. It isn't an easy look to carry off. When you hair is longer, while still nice it's just... I don't know regular. That being said, while you are deciding, I'd go to the salon and ask for a graduated bob, shorter in the back, longer towards your face, without bangs. It helps to deal with the frustrating growing out stage while still looking neat and stylish.

    1. Thanks for the feedback! I had been thinking about doing that kind of haircut as it grows (I just didn't know what it was called!), because right now the layers are kind of hitting the widest part of my face, which I'm not crazy about.
