Back from the Beach

I know it doesn't really seem like I was gone, but I was. :) Last week Matt and I took a much-needed mini-break and headed down to Corpus Christi for a few days to relax on the beach. Of course we threw in a few activities along the way, but this was one of the most low-key trips I've ever taken. We drove the five hours into town with no plan other than to lie on the beach and read, and maybe take a few naps.

The only things we had decided in advance were that, at some point during the week, we wanted to visit the U.S.S. Lexington aircraft carrier museum and the Texas State Aquarium, both of which were less than a mile from our condo.

Matt taught me that a lot of airplanes are stored below the main deck, and that their wings can fold up so they can fit in these giant elevators, allowing way more airplanes to be aboard the ship! The tours of the boat were really cool, though the lower decks were pretty hot and claustrophobic.

Matt made me walk the plank. But I made him walk too! It was quite steep.

We booked a condo right on Corpus Christi Beach through AirBnB, and it was really fantastic. It had its own mini-kitchen, so we stopped at the HEB on the way into town to get some breakfast food and snacks, and the ingredients to make tacos for dinner one of the nights we'd be there.

We had most of our meals in the condo, but on B's recommendation we stopped for dinner at Landry's Seafood House by the boating docks, and also this dive called Blackbeard's where I had the MOST AMAZING BURGER EVER. (Grilled mushrooms, avocado, bacon, pickles and standard burger fixins on this sweet bun ommmmmmmm.) We also grabbed a strawberry milkshake at the original Whataburger late one evening!

And of course, we logged plenty of time walking along the beach, as well as playing in the water and reading in the sand. It was really pleasant; the weather was a little drizzly some of the days, but the wind kept it from being too humid.

I swear it's the wind, my hair is not really this terrible.

We saw a few jellyfish in the water and dead along the shoreline, and we tried to avoid them since we didn't know if dead jellyfish could still sting us or not.

All in all, it was a nice, relaxing trip and now I'm glad to get back to work and real life!
