As I've mentioned before, I love love love (good) commercials. But lately, all I see are advertisements that piss me off. Like that AT&T commercial where the woman berates her husband and mutters that she should have married someone else. Or that Toyota commercial where that annoying girl thinks that being on Facebook is "living."
But my least favorite commercial EVER? It's from VTech. All you have to do is watch the first three seconds. I don't know how the commercial ends (and frankly, I don't care) because every time it comes on, I start yelling at the TV.
I know that eReaders are the way of the future. I know that — much to my chagrin — there will likely be a time where more books will be sold digitally than in print. But that time is NOT now. And it makes me really angry that anyone would teach their children that books are a thing of the past.
What do you think about this commercial? What do you imagine the future looks like in regard to reading?
I recently got a kindle and really enjoy it, but I still have a book shelf of print books and will enjoy reading from print books when we have kids :)
ReplyDeleteI havent seen that ad before today, but now it irks me too! I firmly believe that there will always be a place for print books- aesthetically, they just cant be replaced. Digital readers are great for some things and, yes, there will probably be many books sold digitally. But print will always be around- and I will definitely read to my kids from print books. Also, from a personal view- my eye condition means that reading from a screen isnt always easy for me, so print is actually more convenient for me.
ReplyDeleteOh man, that's so annoying! Books still EXIST, people!
ReplyDeleteWhat is this book thing you keep referring to?!?!
ReplyDelete;)
I think it was just a lame attempt to try to be clever and punny. I think if they were intelligent they would have made it go "Once upon a time there were ONLY books. Now there is also this thing that is highly interactive and can be beneficial to certain kids to help them learn to read books."
I also agree completely about the other two commercials you mentioned.
This is why tivo rocks.
I think print books will always be around, although I also believe the e-reader market will continue to grow.
