Design Star

This post is totally just bragging on my sister. When Rachel was in town last weekend, we had planned our respective craft projects, and one of mine was a quick dress-sewing project. I didn't read the instructions ahead of time, so I didn't have all the required tools — French curve? Pattern paper? — but Rachel had them at home, so we figured we'd just finish that one next month when I'm visiting her and can use her stuff.

Rachel is studying fashion design, and one of her projects this past semester was to make a princess-cut dress. She told me to pick the colors and patterns I wanted so she could fit it for me, and it turned out so cute! She got an A. :)

When she came into town, she brought me the finished dress, as well as a pencil-skirt pattern she had made in one of her pattern-making classes. We found this GORGEOUS tribal-looking fabric at JoAnn's that I just had to have.

I sat around and was totally unhelpful while she made me this beautiful skirt. (Though I did sew the clasp on by hand at the end!)

I love it! I also love that she let me borrow her new orange shoes. :)

Do you like to sew?

  4. Confession: I have had yardage of that black and white AH fabric for a very, VERY long time with the intention of making a skirt. Maybe this post is enough to encourage me to finish that project... Your dress and skirt look great!!!
