Crazy Christmas People

At what point — after all the Christmas festivities are over and the new year has begun and the holiday season is officially over — do you become that crazy family that still has their lights up in July?

Matt and I decided we'd leave our Christmas tree up for another week or so. Mainly because I am too darn lazy to remove all the ornaments, take it down and stick it in the attic.  It's pretty! I'm kind of torn whether mid-January is too long to leave the festive decorations up.

But then I think of my own parents, who keep their (undecorated) Christmas tree set up year-round in my mom's home office. She calls it her "forest tree." (If you knew my mom, you'd just think it's funny, even though it is a little crazy.) This is normal for them.

(And their next-door neighbors had their outdoor Christmas lights up for like six years straight when I was younger.)

How long do you leave your Christmas decorations up? How long after the new year is too long?

  1. Well this was the first year I really got to do decorations and I took 'em down the day after Christmas. But I'm a bit anal about that sort of thing! I think the first or second week of January is totally normal!

  2. I always take my tree down the day after Christmas. For me, nothing is quite so over as Christmas! My kids think I'm nuts, of course.

  3. When we (and by that I mean me) decorated our old apartment, I usually took it down within a week. I loved having it up, but was also ready to have the space back.

  4. Growing up we always took them down a few days after the new year. I always got a little sad when we would take things down - especially the lights! But one of my biggest pet peeves is seeing Christmas lights off season.

  5. We usually keep ours up until the 6th but this year we took it down on New Year's because I was going to be gone all of Jan. and the hubby didn't want to take it down by himself. :)

  6. Lol funny. We took ours down on new years eve actually. I think maybe 2 weeks after the new year is ok..anything after that is pushing it tho. Ive seen lights all year but not lit up. It takes a lot to get those loghts up on the roof lol.
