This trip has been tradition for over 20 years. A few days of sitting in the shade, taking a dip in the cool water when the heat gets too unbearable, going boating and tubing, reading good books, eating en masse, not keeping track of time, sleeping in open-air tents and playing games by lantern light.
It was here, six years ago, that I looked over at Matt and knew I was going to marry him.
And it was here, this weekend, as we all prepared eggs and bacon and tortillas together, that it hit me that this is not just Matt's family. It's now my family too. It was just a little shift, but I felt it.
Did you feel a shift after your wedding?
